.: Universe Links (See NASA links page also) :.

Amazing Space - uses the Hubble Space Telescope's discoveries to inspire and educate about the wonders of our universe.

American Museum of Natural History: Einstein - Examine the history of Albert Einstein and his theories.

Astronomy 161: The Solar System - entire history of universe with most contributing scientists mentioned with focus on the solar system.

Astronomy Dictionary - a glossary of astronomy terms.

At Home Astronomy - hands on activities for the entire family.

Auroras: Mysterious Lights in the Sky - (needs Flash Player) a Flash-based Web site geared for K-4 audiences. Ideum worked with scientists and educators from NASA's Sun-Earth Connection Education Forum at Space Sciences, UC Berkeley to design and develop an animated children's story about the Northern and Southern Lights

Bad Astronomy - As much fun as the movies are to review and the news is to analyze, it's the everyday misconceptions that to me are the heart and soul of Bad Astronomy. We learn a lot from school and our parents, but a lot of what fills our brain is ``common knowledge'', things we seem to accumulate out of thin air. Everyone knows that you can stand an egg on end on the first day of spring... or can you? Of course toilets flush the other way in the southern hemisphere... don't they? It's these types of concepts that got these pages started in the first place. A lot of what we ``know'' about astronomy really just isn't right. These pages are my humble attempt to set the record-- and your brain-- straight about the world's real oldest profession.

Claudius Ptolemy - Background and history of Claudius Ptolemy.

Curriculum Units: Galileo - Who was Galileo Galilei?  We know that Galileo believed and proved that the planets revolve around the sun and not around the Earth.  We know that he faced the Inquisition for publishing and defending that idea.  We know that, in the face of opposition from the Church that he loved and the Pope Urban who had been his friend, Galileo recanted his findings.

Discovery School: Kathy Schrock's Guide - source for quality astronomy links.

The Expanding Universe - This activity is designed to help students gain a deeper understanding of cosmology.  Students develop authentic models and gather evidence supporting the Big Bang theory.  This lesson uses observation, interactive media, and scientific models.

Eye on the Universe: The Hubble Space Telescope - The Hubble Space Telescope is a national asset. Scientists all over the world use the orbiting observatory to get a view of the universe that they can't get any other way.

Galaxy Evolution Explorer - Mapping the history of star formation in the universe.

Journal of the Royal Astronomical Society: Hubble - The Journal of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada; Vol. 83, No.6 December 1989 Whole No. 621; EDWIN HUBBLE 1889-1953 By Allan Sandage,
The Observatories of the Carnegie Institution, Pasadena, California, U.S.A.(Received September 22, 1989).

Kepler - background and history of Johannes Kepler.

Kepler and his laws - Discussion of Kepler's laws with reference to Tycho Brahe.

Kepler’s Proofs - Astronomy had previously been a branch of mathematics, that is, the business of astronomers was only to provide the means of calculating the positions of planets (as seen against the background of the fixed stars). Kepler brought astronomy into natural philosophy by proposing to find the actual paths of the planets in relation to the Sun.

Lunar & Planetary Institute - Learn about the planets in our solar system from NASA.

My Hero's: Stephen Hawking - information written about Hawking with links.

NASA Eclipse Home Page - Want to see eclipse information or when the next will appear? Check out this site.

NASA QUEST: Galileo - background information on Galileo Galilei.

National Radio Astronomy Observatory The National Radio Astronomy Observatory is a facility of the National Science Foundation operated under cooperative agreement by Associated Universities, Inc.

A Science Odyssey - People and discoveries as part of a PBS TV Series.

SOHO - the official web site of the Solar & Heliospheric Observatory mission to study the sun.

Solar Eclipse Information - bulletins from NASA about solar eclipses.

Solar Eclipse: Stories from the Path of Totality - Webcasts and information from the Exploritorium.

Sunspots - learn about the sun and its spots from the Exploritorium.

The Space Educators' Handbook - Although this site is for teachers, there is literally gigabytes of information available about all aspects of the space program from history to current, from zero-G to robotics, and from teachers to kids.

Space Weather - News and information about the Sun-Earth environment.

StarChild: Cosmology --- EXCELLENT SOURCE - Like early astronomers from around the world, the ancient Greeks struggled to understand the Universe. Examine the history.

Sun-Earth Viewer - (needs Flash Player) a Flash-based interactive tool kit built to support the major public outreach initiatives of NASA's Sun-Earth Connection Education Forum

Tycho Brahe - Encarta's background information.

The Universe of Arisotle & Ptolemy - The celestial sphere that we introduced previously is a convenient fiction to locate objects in the sky. See diagrams and explanations of historical perspectives.

Windows to the Universe - The purpose is to develop a fun and different Web site about the Earth and Space sciences

Windows to the Universe: Kepler - short history as part of the Windows to the Universe Series.
